The government of Maharashtra state approved the project of public transport communication developed by Virgin Hyperloop One. It will be the first Hyperloop project in the world that will connect the centre of Pune and Mumbai. The trip will take only 35min in comparison with more than 3,5h now.
The project will be implemented in partnership between DP World – Virgin Hyperloop One Consortium and the government of Maharashtra state.
The annual passenger traffic between Pune and Mumbai amounts to ca. 75 Million people now and it is expected to grow to 130 Million people till 2026. Building of the system will allow transporting 200 Million people every year. This ultra-high-speed connection opens not only new economic and social opportunities but also offers an ecology friendly form of public transportation producing zero direct emissions.
As you know, Hyperloop is a pneumo-train moving in an elevated tube system. Carriages themselves are passenger capsules placed inside the tube. The capsules are supposed to reach the speed of up to 1,200 km/h. It is one and a half times higher than the speed of Boeing 737 passenger plane, ca. 800 km/h. The capsules themselves will run on solar batteries. For the first time the idea of Hyperloop, the new transport system, was offered by Elon Mask, head of Tesla company, in 2013.
